Impact Shooting: Lightweight 300 PRC at 1000 Yards

300 PRC is a relatively new 30-caliber centerfire rifle cartridge released in 2018 and is usually compared to the 300 Winchester Magnum cartridge. The round has increased in popularity as firearms and ammunition manufacturers expand their production lines. Pieter, from the YouTube Channel “IMPACT SHOOTING,” provides his data and thoughts on the 300 PRC in his new video, ‘The Ultimate Test: 1000 Yards with a 300PRC Hunting Rifle’.

More: Impact Shooting 300 PRC HOWA Rifle Build

Post-introduction, Pieter explains the calculations and measurements he collected for his preferred 300 PRC hunting reloads. Then, he heads to the range to test his reloaded ammunition with a new hunting rifle setup.

With a cold bore, the host loads ten rounds of 300 PRC in his rifle and takes shots from a distance just short of 1,000 yards. Pieter dials windage and elevation adjustments on his optic and takes his first shot which lands short of his target, about 1 Mil low. Adjustments are made to account for a gusty headwind on the second through fourth shots, and four follow-up shots land on target. Surprised by the rifle’s performance with no prior dope data, Pieter was pleased with his range session.

Pieter discusses the build here!

Pieter says that you should be looking at getting a 300 PRC and building the equivalent lightweight platform, saying it is worth it. Although carbon fiber rifle barrels heat up faster than other barrel types, this setup allowed the host to make successive impacts at close to 1,000 yards in the same range session. With the MDT HNT26 rifle stock, carbon fiber barrel, and MDT CKYE-POD, this rifle was built with weight savings as an utmost priority. Pieter is excited to shoot this setup and plans to post more shooting and hunting videos!
