Vortex And Grunt Style Mammoth Sniper Challenge
Rucking more than 50 pounds of gear for three days while covering nearly 35 miles, all while completing demanding shooting stages. The Mammoth Sniper Challenge isn’t your typical shooting match—it’s a multi-day endurance event that combines long-range shooting with real-world field conditions. Teams of two must carry everything they need as they navigate physically demanding stages across rugged terrain. Sound fun to you?
Recently, Grunt Style released a video giving viewers a look at what the Mammoth Sniper Challenge is really like. Buckle up.
WHAT IS IT?
The Mammoth Sniper Challenge—often simply called Mammoth—is widely considered one of the most physically demanding sniper matches in the world. Each year, more than one hundred two-person teams compete in a competition that tests far more than shooting ability. Success requires endurance, resilience, and the mental toughness to keep moving when exhaustion sets in.
Despite the name, Mammoth isn’t limited to military snipers. According to event organizer G3 Dynamics, competitors come from a wide range of backgrounds. As they put it: “From Navy SEALs to schoolteachers, carpenters to combat veterans, participants from all walks of life compete in this competition.”
What truly sets Mammoth apart from other precision rifle competitions is the physical component. Over the course of the event, teams must ruck while carrying their rifles, ammunition, and essential gear. Because of this, competitors often favor lighter rifles, rather than the heavier rifles commonly seen at PRS-style matches.
THE CHALLENGE
During the 72-hour competition, teams navigate multiple rucks while hauling nearly 50 pounds of equipment. It’s not just a “finish as you please” challenge: each team must meet minimum time requirements for each ruck. If you miss that time, your team is disqualified. That means you could arrive in the morning, miss PAR time on the first ruck, and be home by the afternoon. Brutal.
The weather is another factor competitors must face. Unless conditions reach true “act of God” status—like a hurricane or Tornado—the match continues regardless of rain, mud, cold, or wind. There are no delays or do-overs. In many ways, the environment itself becomes another stage of the competition.

Throughout the event, competitors move across difficult terrain while completing a variety of rifle and pistol stages. These stages feature unknown distances, improvised shooting positions, and time limits that force shooters to balance speed and precision.
Teamwork plays a major role. Partners must communicate, spot impacts, call corrections, and manage gear under fatigue.
The Grunt Style video highlights the physical effort and competitive spirit that define Mammoth. Competitors face tough terrain, sleepless nights, and unpredictable weather. Through it all, they must maintain the focus needed to make accurate shots at long range.
But if you make it and up on the podium, you get your choice of epic prizes. These include items from MDT and Vortex Optics, among others.
FINAL THOUGHTS
By the end, the video reinforces why Mammoth has earned a reputation as the 'Super Bowl' of sniper competitions. It pushes competitors to their physical and mental limits. Remember, Mammoth doesn’t negotiate; it is final.
The next Mammoth Sniper Challenge is scheduled for April 2026 at Fort Chaffee in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
