The MDT LSS GEN3 is a highly modular chassis system. It lets shooters fine-tune the chassis to their needs, and the Tactical Gear Guy explores that in a recent review video. Let's see what he thinks.
The release of the MDT LSS GEN3 chassis marks a significant evolution in modular rifle design, introducing a system that gives shooters more flexibility than ever before. Rather than simply refining its predecessor, MDT reimagined the platform around a three-piece architecture, allowing users to tailor a rifle for hunting, competition, or tactical applications without sacrificing zero or purchasing multiple complete chassis systems.

At the heart of the LSS GEN3 is a chassis base that houses the rifle action, while interchangeable forends and buttstock adapters bolt directly to either end. MDT currently offers Tactical, Competition, and Hunting-oriented forends, so shooters can swap configurations without removing the action from the center section. Because the barreled action remains attached, the rifle retains its zero while transitioning between setups. The Tactical forend features extensive M-LOK attachment points, an integrated barricade stop, and clearly marked torque specifications beneath the forend to simplify assembly. Likewise, the buttstock interface replaces the fixed compatibility of previous MDT chassis systems by allowing users to choose virtually any compatible stock through interchangeable adapters (for example, say your favorite AR-style stock).
Tactical Gear Guy highlights MDT's SCS Buttstock, which offers extensive adjustability through a customizable buttpad, adjustable length of pull, and a cheek riser that can be moved vertically, fore and aft, and even canted for a more personalized fit. In addition, an AR-15-compatible angled pistol grip, ambidextrous magazine release, and trigger adjustment slot reinforce the platform's shooter-focused design. He also praised the MDT Oryx bipod for its lightweight construction, adjustable leg positions, cant adjustment, and solid footing on uneven terrain. While the MDT AICS 10-round magazine generally performed well, the reviewer noted occasional issues with the final round failing to feed due to the magazine's base plate shifting slightly out of position.

To demonstrate the platform, Tactical Gear Guy showcased a custom rifle built around the LSS GEN3 featuring a Kodiak Defense Renova action, a JC Custom Barrels 6.5 Creedmoor Savage pre-fit barrel, a TriggerTech trigger, and a Vortex Gen III Razor optic. The build was completed with a Cerakote-finished face suppressor from True North Arms, which isn't legal in Canada, on the Canadian-built rifle.
Beyond the rifle build, the video emphasized the LSS GEN3's greatest advantage: its ability to replace several previous MDT chassis models—including the LSS Gen 2, LSS XL, TAC21, and ESS—with a single adaptable platform.
For shooters who own multiple rifle actions or frequently transition between hunting and competition, the MDT LSS GEN3 offers a practical, cost-effective way to build multiple configurations from one modular foundation.
