SAMONG OUTDOORS - FALL BLACK BEAR HUNT
YouTuber Samong of Samong Outdoors takes viewers along for his final five-day August hunt in Episode Two of his hunting series, delivering a mix of adventure, strategy, and the unexpected beauty of the mountains. Over the course of 120 hours, Samong and his hunting partner, Nate, are shown glassing rugged terrain, foraging for wild fruits, and hiking through steep mountain trails—capturing the essence of a hunt that’s as much about patience and observation as it is about the pursuit.
On day two, around 2:00 PM, the duo pauses at a stream to rehydrate—a small but critical moment highlighting the importance of water in remote backcountry hunts. After refreshing, they split up to scout the mountains from different vantage points, maximizing their chances of spotting wildlife. Later that day, they catch a glimpse of a bear, prompting them to establish camp, eat, and rest. Traveling light proves to be a smart strategy: Samong’s MDT HNT 26 rifle build and other lightweight gear help minimize fatigue over the long, grueling days.
Day three brings bad weather by mid-afternoon. Nate sets up a hide site to stay dry while keeping watch over the cliffs and mountainsides for bears. With visibility rapidly decreasing and just 25 minutes of daylight remaining, the hunters head back to camp, ready to recharge for the next day.

On day four, Samong spots evidence of bear activity in the form of droppings and even catches sight of a whitetail wandering through the forest—but no bears appear. Finally, on the last day, the duo confirms the presence of a sow and two black bear cubs on a hillside. Though they don’t get a shot, the week-long hunt proves to be rich with learning.

Throughout the episode, Samong demonstrates not just hunting techniques but the often-overlooked skills that make a backcountry hunt successful: identifying clean water sources, spotting forage, selecting safe campsite locations, and interpreting weather patterns. Although no bears were harvested, the episode serves as a masterclass in preparation, observation, and respect for the wilderness, making it a fascinating watch for both seasoned hunters and newcomers alike.
