MDT Nioka Mountain Challenge - MDT Mention
On the weekend of July 19th, MDT sponsored a new addition to Australian Nightforce PRS: the MDT Nioka Mountain Challenge at The Nioka Range in Wean, New South Wales. Trent D. and Luke M. of Precision Rifle NSW hosted the event. Apex Image was onsite to create a beautiful video of the event.
The range, located between the North Western NSW mountains, had a beautiful mountain backdrop. Unique to the series, this range offers a full 1600 meters, or 1 mile, for the target distance. The range itself was an open field with berms scattered throughout. The match provided many stage obstacles to keep up with the multi-day event.
The range offered several amenities, including a "low 'n slow" meal package and onsite camping. This was necessary, considering the nearest town or hotel is 30 minutes away.
The match ran like a typical PRS match. Shooters are restricted to cartridges no bigger than .30 caliber and no faster than 3200 fps. There were three divisions: Open, Production, and Tactical. Because it takes place in Australia, there are a few extra steps due to their rules and regulations. You must have a valid Australian Firearms License to compete and unbag and bag your rifle before and after each stage, respectively.
Anthony Collie won the match, with Simon Plush and Daniel Hennessy following him up in second and third, respectively. This match looked outstanding. If you live down Unda, missing out on shooting matches here in the future seems like a massive mistake.
