MDT Mention - Impact Shooting Hunting Rifles

Impact Shooting, owned by Pieter Malan, creates some great content specific to long-range shooting. Pieter, a former Pro Cyclist, got into the shooting sports in 2017 and spends his time creating photos and video, teaching precision rifle, hunting, and running the Impact Proshop, which carries high-quality shooting gear and accessories.

Pieter recently released a series of videos detailing his hunt in South Africa and the rifles that would accompany him.

In the above video, Pieter mentions that he will hunt twelve different game animals, from the small Springbok to the massive Eland. For his hunt, Pieter took three custom chassis-equipped rifles.

The first rifle was a Bat Machine chambered in 28 Sherman Magnum mated to an MDT ESS Chassis. The gun was equipped with an ARCA rail, making tripod and bipod use easy. According to Pieter, this rifle is essentially a heavy target rifle capable of launching a 190-grain bullet over 3,000 fps and would be perfect for the massive Eland. However, Pieter noted he would be doing most of his hunting with his lighter 6.5 Sherman Magnum.

The 6.5 Sherman Magnum was built around the Bat Bumblebee aluminum action and featured a carbon fiber-wrapped barrel. The Bat action was mated to an MDT LSS-XL Gen 2 stock and was equipped with a Trigger Tech Diamond. Pieters's last rifle was a 6 Dasher that would be perfect for harvesting small antelope like Springbok. The 6 Dasher was attached to an MDT HNT 26 Chassis System and, like the rest of the rifles, had a high-end Vortex optic.

Pieter made a beautiful video that details his hunt, specifically his Eland stalk. Ultimately he harvested the Eland with his 6.5 Sherman Magnum. While he was stalking around the bush looking for a trophy Eland, he had his MDT HNT26 equipped 6 Dasher slung on his shoulder, noted the clean lines mitigated snags, and was a joy to carry.

All of Pieter's rifles are optimized for shooting off tripods since the terrain and vegetation on that particular range make shooting prone difficult. Tripods are great because they let you build a position quickly and offer a lot of flexibility when tracking an animal.
