MDT CRBN NRL OPEN LIGHT RIFLE BUILD

NRL Hunter is one of the most popular forms of precision rifle competition. In it, competitors face “realistic” shooting scenarios as they engage targets at unknown distances, from natural terrain and barricades. The goal is to mimic real hunting situations. The sport features different division formats, heavy and light, which limit a rifle’s weight. Additionally, a cartridge must meet a minimum power factor, meaning it must resemble something a hunter would use. MDT offers several unique stock options for NRL Hunter competitors. In a recent video, Johnathan Ocab provides a detailed review of the MDT CRBN Stock while also sharing an update on his NRL Hunter Open Light rifle.

The stock’s foundation is a magnesium mini-chassis that holds the action. Surrounding it is a carbon fiber body that reduces weight while making the stock extremely stiff. The pistol grip has integrated thumb shelves and an adjustable comb. Spacers can be added or removed to adjust the length of pull. An ARCA-dovetail is integrated into the forend. Additionally, a variety of finishes are available.

For the bottom metal, Jonathan chose MDT’s Precision bottom metal (Badger M5 footprint. This bottom metal includes a barricade stop, extended mag release, and is cut for AW magazines—features that are important to competitive shooters. With this bottom metal, the CRBN maxes out at nearly $1600. It’s a hefty price, but it’s all-inclusive. There’s no need for bedding, fitting the bottom metal, or additional gunsmithing fees.
