EXTREME SHOOTING CHALLENGE AT HEART MOUNTAIN

EXTREME SHOOTING CHALLENGE AT HEART MOUNTAIN

There are PRS matches throughout the year that competitors circle. Sometimes it’s matches they’ve scored well at, or maybe it’s one with their favorite course of fire. For others, it’s the match that promises the most difficult conditions and is known to be a challenge. For the guys at MTNTOUGH Fitness, it was time to put their brand’s name to the test. In a recent video, they set out for the daunting challenge of Heart Mountain.

HEART MOUNTAIN

Heart Mountain, located north of Cody, Wyoming, is home to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a charity that supports those who have given it all for all of us. All winnings are donated to a good cause. It’s a sprawling facility that takes advantage of Wyoming’s beautiful landscapes.

The Match

However, just because this match is for charity, that doesn’t mean it’s charitable to the competitors. Unlike typical Eastern PRS matches, the terrain is the obstacle—no manmade structures in sight. It’s a challenging course, with lots of wind. This match features a range of targets out to 2,000 yards and at elevations of 7,000 feet.

To give them the best chance for success, the team at MTNTOUGH is using premium components, including the MDT ACC Elite chassis and Ckye-Pod. A match, like Heart Mountain, is unforgiving, and your gear needs to hold up.

To perform well, shooters need to lock in. There is no margin for error. Each stage demands respect as shooters must lean on fundamentals to conquer the challenge. Each stage has a unique set of targets and obstacles to overcome. From boulders and down trees to awkward angles, the match tests shooters’ skill.

As day 1 ends, day 2 brings even worse conditions as whipping winds and falling temperatures make a difficult match near miserable. As the temperatures dipped below freezing and the wind continued unabated, the conditions became untenable for both man and machine. The match was called at around 10:00 AM—time for a nip of something warm (and perhaps, strong) to warm up the body as the team heads down to civilization to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate the challenge that was Heart Mountain.

ZOOMING OUT

Even in these conditions, the team at MTN Tough performed well, and in reflection, they viewed the conditions as a test of their abilities. For new shooters, it was a match to build off. More than anything, it drums up excitement for future matches that push everyone’s physical limits. If you enjoy the content from MTNTOUGH Fitness, be sure to check them out here.
