WHAT IS A CIP LENGTH MAGAZINE?

CIP length refers to cartridge overall length standards set by the Commission Internationale Permanente (CIP), the European governing body that regulates firearms and ammunition much like SAAMI in the U.S. Rifles and chassis built for CIP-length magazines are designed to handle cartridges longer than standard long-action dimensions, often in the 3.715"–3.850" range. This added internal space allows shooters to run large magnums such as the .338 Lapua Magnum or .300 Norma, as well as custom handloads with heavy, high-BC bullets seated long. By accommodating these extended lengths, CIP magazines not only ensure reliable feeding but also give reloaders the flexibility to optimize case capacity, bullet jump, and ballistic performance without being restricted by shorter magazine boxes.
