The new Bergara Competition Elite gives PRS shooters a competition-ready rifle straight from the factory, pairing Bergara's Premier Action and barrel with an MDT ACC Elite chassis and a TriggerTech trigger. In this video, Mike Chiarappa of Hunt Fish Shoot visits the Bergara Shooting Academy in Wyoming for an inside look at the new rifle, including its development for the production class and its long-range performance.
According to Bergara, the Competition Elite was developed in response to shooters (like Mike) who were already using Bergara barreled actions to build essentially the same rifle themselves. Rather than requiring competitors to assemble a rifle from individual components, Bergara partnered with MDT to offer a factory rifle designed for PRS-style competition.

The rifle uses the Bergara Premier Action (made in Georgia). It sits in the MDT ACC Elite chassis, offering extensive adjustability and the ability to tailor the rifle to the shooter's preferences. Bergara is offering the Competition Elite in common PRS cartridges, including 6mm Dasher, 6mm GT, 6mm Creedmoor, 25 Creedmoor, 6.5mm Creedmoor, .22 Creedmoor, and .308 Winchester. Mike and Glen from Bergara discuss shooting the 6mm Dasher in Wyoming, including engagements beyond 1,000 yards and out to a mile.
The Competition Elite features a TriggerTech flat-face trigger, and the MDT ACC Elite chassis delivers the adjustability shooters expect. Shooters can add weights to the chassis, adjust the grip, and use the integrated thumb rests to configure the rifle to their natural shooting position.
The rifle also ships with an MDT metal magazine, which Bergara says was tested to ensure reliable function in competitive settings. The results were impressive. Mike describes making repeated vital hits on an antelope-sized target at 894 yards.
One of the more interesting points in the discussion is how closely modern factory rifles have approached custom-rifle performance. Mike explains that a comparable build using a Bergara barreled action, the MDT chassis, and a trigger costs more in individual components than Bergara's factory rifle. Bergara acknowledges that shooters can still customize a rifle further, but the goal with the Competition Elite is to provide as much capability as possible directly from the factory.
That philosophy extends to how they developed the rifle. Bergara and MDT aren't designing equipment based on what sounds good; they are testing it. Members of both companies' teams compete in the same PRS and NRL Hunter matches. So they know what people want.

The Bergara Competition Elite combines the Premier Action, a heavy barrel, and the MDT ACC Elite chassis in a factory package designed specifically for PRS-style shooting. Mike's experience in Wyoming suggests the rifle can deliver serious long-range performance. At the same time, the chassis provides the adjustability needed to fit the shooter rather than forcing the shooter to adapt to the rifle. The Competition Elite has an MSRP of $2999.00, falling under the production division limit.
