EXPERIENCE THE THRILL OF A PRS PRO MATCH

Shooting a Precision Rifle Series match is exciting—thrilling, actually. It’s a wave of emotions that must be constantly controlled to achieve success. One wrong wind call or elevation hold can lead to derailment. That’s where hours of practice and pre-match confirmation of zero and data come into play. Every shot matters. But it’s the thrill of hitting a steel plate that keeps bringing you back. However, for those who haven’t experienced a match or perhaps haven’t built up the courage to compete in one (do it, trust me, it’s the most welcoming community of shooters), Lauryl Akenhead brings viewers along in a recent video.

Lauryl, a team shooter for Ruger, Leupold Optics, Hornady, and Peterson Cartridge Co., takes us behind the scenes at the Pigg River Precision Pro Match in Rocky Mount, Virginia. However, she doesn’t go alone; she joins team MDT pro shooter Keith Baker, who shares his experiences at the match along with tips to ensure success.

For Lauryl, this was her third match in three weeks, spanning Georgia, Iowa, and finally Virginia. However, being away from home isn’t an excuse; it’s an opportunity to hone your skills and put yourself in the best position to succeed because that is what it takes to compete at a high level in PRS. Of course, anyone can compete and have fun; that’s what most of us do. However, competing at the PRS Finale or the IPRF World Championship requires this level of dedication.

But when it comes down to it, Lauryl’s favorite aspect of PRS isn’t the awards or the gratification; it’s the people. “My favorite things about the sport are the people. I love being around all of these guys. I have made some of the best friends I think I will ever make in my life.” And that’s what makes PRS so unique in the world of competitive shooting: it’s the people.
